Squidoo Nevis Island Links

Squidoo!  What the hell is Squidoo you ask?  Well it is sort of like a blog, website, forum, and social networking site all in one.  Very easy to use, and has some nice features for displaying photos, videos, etc. as well as a chance to make a buck or two.  I have been fooling around in my spare time on a few “lenses” (mini-sites), and I thought I would post the links here.

Nevis Public Utilities Commission Suspends Rate Increases

Bookmark and Share

Charlestown Nevis – February 28, 2007

The Nevis Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has directed that the proposed rate increases by the Caribbean Cable Television of Nevis be suspended from 1st March 2007 until the Commission determines fair and reasonable rates to be charged by the Cable Television.  The Commission has also directed that the rates currently being charged by the company shall continue in force during the period of suspension.

The decision to suspend the proposed rates of increases came following a meeting of the Commission held on Tuesday February 27 after it was mandated to consider a proposal by Cable Television to increase the rates charged for its services.

According to a press release from the PUC, lawyer Jeffery Nisbett,  it also considered a request by the Minister of Communications for a review of the rates charged by Cable Television and also agreed to enquire into the question whether the Cable Television’s rates were fair and reasonable.

Earlier this month, Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Joseph Parry voiced his Administration’s disapproval of the increased rates at that time.  The Premier said that the Nevis Island Administration had to ensure that any decision that is made that would affect the people of Nevis; the cost of living must be studied, and must be done properly.

Notwithstanding, Premier Parry announced the re-establishment of the PUC to address the matter of the proposed increased rates for Cable Television services and to advise government on the way forward.

Nevis Commences Consultations On 600 Acres

Charlestown Nevis (February 27, 2007)
The Nevis Island Administration is this week hosting a series of consultations with a number of organizations, community groups, the business sector and the general public.  The purpose of these meetings is to discuss the counter proposals that were offered to Newfound Developers on the 600 acres of land.

On Monday February 26th, the Cabinet of the Nevis Island Administration met and held discussions with the Nevis division of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce at the Conference Room at Bath Hotel.

Following the meeting the Department of Information asked Premier Parry what his Nevis Reformation Party led-Administration hoped to achieve from these consultations.

“Everybody is aware that the Nevis Reformation Party [NRP] stated during its campaign that we were dissatisfied with what was negotiated and that it would be re-negotiated. We [NRP led-NIA] are in the process of doing that and we have been pretty successful up to now.  We have met with the Chamber of Commerce today (Monday) and we discussed the matter in great detail.  Tomorrow (Tuesday) we are meeting with other groups and we’ll have meetings down to Wednesday 28th February.
