Charlestown, Nevis (April 26, 2007)

Principal Education Officer in the Department of Education on Nevis Mrs. Jennifer Hodge told education officers that as administrators of education, they had to adapt to change quickly if they were to provide an effective and empowering framework, to manage the inevitable changes of the 21st century.
 
Mrs. Hodge was at the time delivering brief remarks at commencement of the Department of Education’s two-day Education Retreat on April 26, 2007 at the Mount Nevis Hotel’s conference room. The retreat is being held under the theme “Empowering People – Effecting Change through Training” with facilitators Dr. Robertine Chadderton, Mrs. Hazel Brandy-Williams Budget Analyst and Mr. Colin Dore, Treasurer.
 
According to Mrs Hodge, the retreat underscored the opportunity for the Education administrators to critically examine targets for their Corporate Plan which spanned the next three years and to expose them to issues related to Budget reform.
 
She noted that the Department recognised that teaching was a very demanding profession but had to cope with the rapid changes in education added to the social issues which blindsided the Department dealt with them and provided support for its teachers. Read the rest of this entry »

Basseterre, St. Kitts - Nevis (April 26, 2007)

St. Kitts and Nevis will be the venue for another first, when preparations to host one of the most prestigious sports conferences are complete.

The International Council for Health, Physical Education Recreation, Sport and Dance (ICHPER∙SD) convenes its first Caribbean Conference in St. Kitts and Nevis on May 11 and 12. The Royal St. Kitts Hotel and Casino formerly known as Jack Tar Village Resort is the venue for the event.

Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee Rita Cable told SKNIS that a large number of foreign delegates are expected to attend the two-day meeting being hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, Sport and Culture in collaboration with the St. Kitts - Nevis Alliance for Sport, Physical Education and Recreation (SKNASPER). Minister of Trade and Industry and Youth the Hon. Hensley Daniel urged a group of business studies they should think of ways to apply technology to business ideas to make them more viable.
 
He also urged them to take advantage of opportunities which the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) would soon make available to youths on the island, who were interested in setting up their own businesses.
 
The students who hailed from the Charlestown, Gingerland and Lynn Jeffers Secondary Schools, met with Mr. Daniel at the Conference Room, Government House at the Bath Hotel on Wednesday April 25, 2007, as he gave them encouragement ahead of their participation of the East Caribbean Central Bank’s annual Trade Fair in Basseterre on Friday April 27.
 
Mr. Daniel told the students since the new Administration had taken office, it had given a special amount of attention to creating entrepreneurship among young people.
 
Notwithstanding, he explained that the Administration would soon launch a Youth Enterprise Scheme for persons under the age of 29. He said the Administration had budgeted a half million dollars in its 2007 Budget to accommodate young people interested in business. Read the rest of this entry »
