Kim Collins wins yet another major meet.

Paris, France
June 28th 2008

The St Kitts and Nevis sprint superstar Kim Collins delivered his fastest 100-metre run since 2005 when he captured the event at the Moscow Open in 10.10 seconds some two weeks ago in Moscow, Russia.

Collins has now followed up that spectacular and impressive victory with yet another stellar performance this time in France at the Metropole Gaz de France Athletic Meet.

Kim impressed during the men’s 100m race with a storming start and acceleration, to win with a 0.13sec margin over his closest competitor. Collins set his 3rd 10.10 time in a row, after meets in Moscow and Zukhovsky over the last two weekends.

“I’m disappointed by the time because I wish I had run under 10sec, but the weather made it difficult (wind was -0.3). I am probably in the best shape of my career, and I was happy to run in France,” said the winner of Paris 2003 World Championships, whose next race will be in Madrid. Read the rest of this entry »

Traditional Roti Bread Recipe

Roti bread…..the tortilla of the Caribbean.  Well almost, I find roti bread to be lighter, and more delictae than tortillas.

Ingredients:

1½-cups flour
1½-teaspoons baking powder
½-teaspoon salt
1½-tablespoons lard, yes you read that correctly…lard.  Ask your butcher for it.
A few tablespoons water

Cooking Method:

Mix all the dry ingredients thoroughly, then work in lard and add enough water to make a soft non-sticky dough. Cover and let the roti bread dough rise for an hour. Divide dough into six pieces, then roll out to 8-inch circles and cook individually in a heavy ungreased cast iron or nonstick skillet for about until they get just the slightest brown color to them.

The rotis they serve at Oualie Beach Resort, are made with chick pea flour, and are delicious!  See my recipe for Beef Rotis here http://www.nevisblog.com/?p=1467

Director of the Department of Information in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) Mr. Huey Sargeant described De Fever, a new interactive entertainment initiative on Nevis Television (NTV) as successful. The programme which was designed to attract the island’s younger population was launched on June 10, 2008.

In an interview along with NTV’s producer Mr. Cory “Masablue” Tyson, Mr. Sargeant explained that the half hour Tuesday night programme with a repeat on Friday, was part of the Department’s strategy to involve younger persons and to enhance the programming which had not included an interactive programme.

“So far so good and we are pleased especially based on the response. So far we have had three different shows and it’s like we have tweaked it and we continue to tweak it.

“In terms of enhancing NTV’s programming, the target really is to attract younger viewers. We have had complaints over the years that we had a set of programming that was general and attracted the older population, adults, and academics but then with this [De fever] you we are moving away from the “˜talking heads’. Basically you [audience] are tired of seeing persons just sitting in front of the camera and read a script of just talk at the audience. This show is far more interactive than anything that we have had previously,” he said. Read the rest of this entry »
