Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) Mr. Alec Sanguinetti, praised Nevis’ decision to target high end tourism markets and said it was the right thing to do. He commended Premier and Minister of Tourism Hon. Joseph Parry for the move at his Bath Plain office, when a delegation from the Association visited Nevis on September 29, 2008.

“You are absolutely right in targeting the high end market for your visitor situation because that market, Sir, is the least susceptible to the changes in the market place particularly when we have economic challenges,” he said.

While Mr. Parry thanked the delegation for its visit to Nevis, he described their discussions as “very interesting”. The topics ranged from geothermal, training assistance, the airline situation and how they could work together to market tourism in St. Kitts and Nevis and the Caribbean.

The Premier said he was certain that in spite of the difficulties faced by the industry at this time, the islands of the Caribbean would prevail as they had done in the past and the tourism industry would continue to grow from strength to strength. Read the rest of this entry »

Taiwanese President Promises To Visit St. Kitts – Nevis

Newly-elected President of the Republic of China on Taiwan, His Excellency Ma Ying-jeou, has invited St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas to visit the Asian nation.

“I would like to extend an initiation to your Excellency to once again lead a delegation to Taiwan, where you may acquire an understanding of my country’s most recent developments. Your visit will allow us to show our hospitality and to seek your Excellency’s� � in sights on issues of mutual concern,” said President Ma, who was elected Taiwan’s new Head of Government earlier this year.

“In the future, I hope to work closely with your Excellency in promoting bilateral relations and cooperation based on the spirit of mutual trust and reciprocity,” said President Ma, who added that he wish to visit St. Kitts and Nevis in the future to exchange views on current global events and issues of bilateral relations.

President Ma recalled that the Republic of China (Taiwan) was the first country to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with St. Kitts and Nevis after it declared independence 25 years ago.

“Ever since these historic events, our two countries have remain true friends, supporting each other in the international arena as needed. The brotherly ties between our two countries have grown significantly over the years,” said the Taiwanese leader.

The Taiwan President was represented at recent 25th Anniversary of Independence celebrations by Chief Justice and President of the Judicial Yuan, Dr. Lai in-jaw.

The world’s newest cruise ship that departed the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, on Sunday is set to begin visits to St. Kitts – Nevis in November.

In a milestone event known as “The Conveyance,” the 2,850-guest Celebrity Solstice made its way down the River Eems, as tens of thousands of area residents lining the river banks cheered and photographed the historic event.
